Curriculum Lead for ICT: Mr P Anderson

In Years 7 pupils learn how to use ICT for presentation, research, modelling, and multimedia. They learn to use several different ICT applications to solve larger and more complex problems. Pupils are introduced to Python coding language, to understand the principles of programming. Pupils are then introduced to Corona SDK software, and a second textual coding language - Lua code. This allows them to create and view android and ios apps, from raw code to finished product. Towards the end of year 7 pupils also gain experience of game design, using Microsoft Kodu, and website design. This is achieved through two formal lessons each week. The knowledge, skills and understanding that pupils gain is also applied to other areas of the curriculum where ICT is used extensively.

In year 8 pupils continue to learn how to code using Python, and create apps using Corona SDK and Lua code. They are also introduced to game design, using industry standard software Clickteam Fusion 2.5, to create a range of different interactive games. Pupils then learn how to promote their game designs, through video creation & editing. At present pupils receive one ICT lesson per week in year 8.

KEY STAGE 4 (Years 9-11)

At Key Stage 4 ICT is a popular option choice which leads to the EDEXCEL Certificate in Digital Applications. This has units in Website Design and Game Design which cover the whole product design and production cycle for a website or game. The course is practically based and is a springboard for further study at higher levels in education. The course teaching material is largely web-based.
