History Department Information Outline
The History Department at Alcester Academy is proud of the progress students make. The department has a proven track record of success at GCSE with many students going on to study history at A level and beyond. We strive to make history engaging and accessible for all students and the success of this has been demonstrated by history being a very popular subject when options are chosen. In year 7 students are first taught to develop their historical skills in order to be more effective historians and have a better understanding of the past. The knowledge, skills and understanding that students gain is then applied throughout year 7 as students study a range of events and time periods, including the Norman Conquest, the murder of Becket, the Crusades, King John and Magna Carta, the Peasants’ Revolt and the Tudors. In year 8 students study the following topics: The French Revolution, The Slave Trade, WW1, the rise to power of Hitler, WW2 and the Holocaust. During our three year KS4 structure at Alcester Academy, students follow the AQA GCSE History course. Students study 4 units: Health and the People, Germany 1890-1945, Elizabethan England and Conflict and Tension in Asia 1950-1975.
