Duke of Edinburgh

What is the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme?

DofE is a balance programme of activities which develops the mind, body and soul in a non-competitive environment of social interaction and team working. DofE is all about personal choice and responsibility and encourages young people to live life as an adventure. Most important of all however is that doing your DofE Award is lots of fun.

What does the Award Scheme consist of?

There are three progressive levels of programmes leading to Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. Here at Alcester Academy, we offer Bronze in year 10 and Silver in year 11. The young people create their own DofE programme by choosing a volunteering, physical and skill activity and planning and taking part in an expedition. There are also various training elements which need to be undertaken such as navigation and map skills, route planning, first aid and campcraft.

Volunteering—Undertaking a service to individuals or the community

Skill—Developing practical and social skills and personal interests.

Physical—Improving an area of sport, dance or fitness activity.

Expedition—Planning, training for and completing an adventurous journey.

What are the benefits of doing DofE?

Young people get so many rewards from undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh Award. Achieving the Award will give you new skills, confidence and a view on life that everyone is looking for, from employers to colleges and universities. You can make a real difference to others, learn new things, make new friends and above all have a great laugh.

How can I find out more?

We hold a parents evening for the current year 9s who may be interested in doing their Bronze DofE and for any year 10s who wish to progress from Bronze to Silver.
