Summer Plans 2021

Dear Year 11 Students and Parents

Thank you for your patience again since the DfE and Ofqual announcement about Year 11 plans for this summer. We needed time to speak with the Subject Leaders upon returning to school this week in order to ascertain very clearly, where they were with courses. I can now outline the beginnings of a clear pathway for the remaining school time this year with further subject specific information to follow for you towards the end of this week.

  • Until Easter, teachers will spend time with Y11 filling further gaps and collating the evidence that was completed by students in lockdown. The students will begin to collect a physical portfolio of evidence in each subject area comprising of December mocks, in class tests or assessments, exam questions and evidence of any positive responses to teacher feedback through their KS4; specifically Y10 and 11. By involving the students in this process, we feel that they will have ownership of their own work and can see the evidence that will contribute to their final centre assessed grade in each subject area.
  • After Easter, subject areas have carefully mapped out the further assessment and evidence that will be required to provide the centre assessed grade. This work will be carried out in class by our Y11s with forward notice of what is being assessed and when. We understand that these few weeks will feel like an intensive period of time for the students but this is only for a short while. We have taken the greatest care to try to mitigate against the students having lots of key assessments on the same day. Towards the end of this week, we will issue a booklet to Y11s and parents showing what this might look like on a week-by-week basis for each subject. This will all take place from 19th April – 28th May 2021.
  • After May half term, teachers will begin to assign the centre-assessed grades for students and we will begin a thorough quality assurance and scrutiny on the evidence provided. The awarding bodies may call for this for the Y11 candidates. SLT will then work towards these grades being confirmed and submitted by 18th June 2021 as the ultimate national deadline. Remember, we are unable to release the centre-assessed grades before August 12th.

Attendance to school by the students during this very important period is essential in order that they don’t miss the final key assessments in each subject area.

As yet, we are unaware of any official ‘leaving date’ for Year 11. We could assume that this will be after 18th June and we will wait for further information to be released before we publish this. All schools are currently in this position. We are aware that results will be published on 12th August 2021. As a minimum, these will be released electronically via email to students. Whether we invite students in to school on this date is still uncertain.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students and staff for working with us on a logical and coherent way forward. By involving the students every step of the way, we hope not to have any appeal situations in August. This process will be outlined to you however if the students disagree.

The Y11 reports will still be issued towards the end of March in order that you and the students can begin to see more clearly the current progress.

If you have any queries, do not hesitate to contact us.

As ever, thank you for your on-going support.

Kind regards

Mrs Mellors
