Alcester Academy is dedicated to creating a more sustainable future for our school, community and the planet. In response to the Department for Education’s (DfE) Climate Action Plan mandate; that all education settings will have a nominated sustainability lead and climate action plan in place by 2025, our school has established a comprehensive plan.

This initiative is led by our dedicated Sustainability Lead, Miss O Nemeshanyi, and supported by our passionate team of student ambassadors. Our ambassadors play an integral part in the school's drive towards a more sustainable future, working on various initiatives, eco-friendly practices and collaborative workshops together and alongside our alliance schools.

Our plan focuses on key areas including decarbonization, adaptation to climate change, biodiversity, and climate education. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and achieving net-zero goals, ensuring our students are prepared for a world shaped by climate change and are equipped with the knowledge and skills for green careers.

Our Ambassador Profiles 2025-2026

Adam

I wanted to be sustainability ambassador because it’s important to raise awareness about littering and the environmental impacts it has, such as polluting the soil during summer on the fields, or trip hazards in the corridor. I am looking forward to implementing the new recycling system at Alcester Academy and encouraging all students to use the correct recycling bins which are going to be across the site. In turn this project should reduce the waste that gets sent to landfill and bring down our schools carbon footprint. Another important programme we have been working on as sustainability ambassadors is to fight climate change through planting around Alcester Academy alongside our alliance schools to create a ‘greener’ environment which helps to promote biodiversity where nature can thrive.

Alina

I wanted to be a sustainability ambassador because I care about the environment and the animals that live in it. It is important to me that we make sure the generations after us have the chance to live on this beautiful planet just like us! There are some very simple things that can make a difference, like turning off lights or putting on a jumper instead of turning the heating on. As an ambassador I hope that I will be able to encourage some of these practices to become second nature, enabling us all to make a difference.

Charlotte

I am very proud to call myself a sustainability ambassador as I am passionate about our planet and the world around us. I wanted to become a sustainability ambassador because I care about  our school environment and small changes that can make a big difference.

Bella

I have always been passionate about helping to save the planet; it’s our generation that can make a positive difference when it comes to climate change. Being a sustainability ambassador has helped me to develop valuable leadership skills, understanding my own impact on the environment and working as a team to make a positive difference. I feel honoured to have the opportunity to be in this role.

Maddie

I wanted to be a sustainability ambassador because when I was little I would sit with my dad while he gardened and watch in awe with little pink gardening gloves on as different animals or insects entered our garden. Ever since, I’ve had a passion for the environment. My passion grew when I read about all the environmental problems growing up and I felt I needed to do something to make a difference. When I heard about the sustainability ambassadors I was ecstatic because I felt if I could make a change at school it would be a small step toward a more sustainable world. I believe that if we all take small steps to help the environment it can add up. Turning the lights off when you leave the room or making sure you put your rubbish in the correct bin can make such a big difference. There are so many small steps you can take to reduce the impact of climate change, like, walking, cycling or using public transport and lowering your energy use at home by turning off lights, taking shorter showers and switching to LED lightbulbs.

Riley

I applied to be an ambassador mostly to protect the animals and their habitats. Many animals are going extinct because their habitats are being destroyed and I thought it was a great idea to use resources from the school to build homes for our local wildlife, which we did! For example, we used scrap wood and metal to make bug hotels and bird houses and hopefully we encouraged other people to do it too.

I also feel strongly about recycling and food waste, because we are destroying our planet with greenhouse gas-emissions. Alcester Academy has been very good at educating this generation about this in Geography and Food Tech, so they can help improve eco-system sustainability for the next generation.

I look forward to the many other ways we (as ambassadors) can encourage more sustainable actions over my remaining years at Alcester Academy.

Teddy

When I was young, I saw a fox eating a crisp packet and it made me feel something must be done! Humans are the smartest, deadliest, and most strange animal on the planet. We have an unusual ability to shape the world around us. No other animal would ever imagine luxuries and it is our luxuries that are destroying the planet. We don’t need to give up our luxuries, we just need to use them more sustainably. However, it is not too late to change things. I hope to raise awareness for climate change by being a sustainability ambassador. If we as humans have an epiphany and a reformed attitude to climate change and sustainability we can turn around this climate crisis for us animals and the future generations.

Jess

I have signed up to be a sustainability ambassador because I want to end pollution and stop so much waste going to land fill. We are able to recycle many things, not waste them; so much can be reused in all sorts of ways. So much of this waste ends up in our oceans killing wildlife. We should stop and think about this for a moment and wonder how it's affecting our world. I would

Connor

I wanted to be a sustainability ambassador to ensure human survival, health, and economic stability. The environment provides things like clean air, drinkable water, food and raw minerals. It stabilizes the climate, prevents natural disasters, supports biodiversity and fosters mental well-being, directly impacting our quality of life and future generations. Also, Protecting animals is essential to maintain ecological balance, ensure human survival through biodiversity, and uphold ethical responsibilities. Wildlife provides vital ecosystem services like pollination, water purification, and nutrient cycling.. Wildlife provides vital ecosystem services like pollination, water purification, and nutrient cycling. Conservation prevents food chain disruption, reduces climate change, and preserves natural resources for future generations.

Ava

I would like to be a sustainability ambassador because I think that there is so much that we as a school could do to help the environment and I would like to be part of that. I think sharing the knowledge of sustainability is important because it makes people aware of the issues in our world. I believe that if we do our part as a school we can reduce the risk of climate change and inspire all of our students and their families to do the same, we should work together as a community to slow climate change in our area and reverse the effects made by it.

Poppy

I wanted to be a sustainability ambassador because I love nature and animals. I care a lot about wanting to help improve the environment by reducing litter and planting trees or flowers. I am a confident public speaker so I am more than happy to present whenever we need to share ideas with the school or community.
