Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) at Alcester Academy
At Alcester Academy, we are committed to fostering a culture where everyone feels valued, respected, and included. Our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) work is at the heart of our school community, ensuring that all students, staff, and families can thrive in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Our Purpose
We believe that diversity is a strength, and inclusion is essential for success. Through our EDI initiatives, we aim to:
- Create a school culture where all individuals feel safe, supported, and celebrated.
- Promote awareness, understanding, and appreciation of different cultures, backgrounds, and identities.
- Embed inclusivity across the curriculum and wider school life.
- Challenge discrimination and inequality in all its forms.
- Support students in developing respect, empathy, and a strong sense of belonging.
What We’re Doing
To ensure EDI is a priority in all aspects of school life, we:
- Celebrate Key Events – We mark cultural and awareness events such as Black History Month, Pride, International Women’s Day, and more through activities, assemblies, and classroom discussions.
- Embed EDI in Learning – Our curriculum is regularly reviewed to reflect diverse perspectives and experiences.
- Support Student Voice & Groups – We work closely with pupil-led groups, including the LGBT+ Club, to ensure students have a platform to express their views.
- Provide Pastoral Support – We offer additional social and emotional support for students from international backgrounds, those with SEND, and other underrepresented groups.
- Offer Training & Development – We provide staff with high-quality training to ensure inclusive teaching and positive role modelling for students.
- Respond to Concerns – Students can report any EDI-related issues, and we work sensitively and proactively to address them.
EDI Calendar of Events
We organise and participate in a range of events throughout the school year. Here are some of the key moments we are celebrating this academic year:
The calendar will be shared shortly.
This calendar is regularly updated, and we welcome suggestions from students, staff, and parents on events to include.
Get Involved!
EDI is a shared responsibility, and we encourage students, parents, and staff to get involved. Whether it’s joining a student group, suggesting an event, or learning more about different cultures and identities, everyone has a part to play in making Alcester Academy a truly inclusive school.
